Youngsville man who shot mother of his child has a history of violence against women

YOUNGSVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) – A Youngsville man who police said shot the mother of his child and then took at that baby appeared in court Monday.
Devon Whaley, 24, is facing charges of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to commit murder, and fleeing the scene of a crime. Youngsville police said more charges are pending.
Whaley is accused of kicking down the door and shooting Desiree Jaquetta Hopkins twice inside her apartment in the 100 block of Hampton Lane at approximately 7 p.m. Friday.
He then fled the scene with his 1-year-old daughter, Desaree Hopkins.
Police arrived at the scene and found the door kicked down and nobody inside the apartment. Desiree Hopkins had fled in the scene in a car and then crashed less than a mile down the road, authorities said.
Police quickly realized Desaree Hopkins was missing.
An AMBER Alert was issued around 1 a.m. on
