Teen crashes, flips car in NC woods, suffering serious head injuries

CAMERON, N.C. (WNCN) — A teenager crashed a car in woods in Harnett County on Sunday afternoon, officials said.
CLICK TO VIEW SEVERAL PHOTOS FROM THE CRASH SCENEThe crash happened around 3 p.m. on Highway 24/27 near Dove Road on the edge of Harnett County, according to officials at the scene.
The incident was a one-vehicle crash in which the 17-year-old driver went off the road and into woods.
The car hit at least one tree and flipped on its side. One door panel from the car was stuck to a tree after the crash.
The driver was briefly trapped, but was freed from the car and then taken to a nearby landing zone for helicopter transportation to UNC Hospitals.
The teen suffered serious head injuries, according to reports at the scene.
Benhaven Rescue transported the victim to the landing zone and Carolina AirCare provided air transport.
Cypress Pointe Fire also assisted in the rescue.
