Rescue underway for pair who were kayaking in Haw River

HAW RIVER, N.C. (WNCN) — Crews in Chatham County are trying to rescue two boaters stuck in the Haw River.
The incident was reported around 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the Haw River near US 64 at the Haw River Bridge.
A man and woman went kayaking and had problems in the river somehow, officials said.
The woman who is involved in the incident is considered a priority rescue because of a medical condition, according to reports.
As of 9:30 p.m. crews were still trying to rescue the pair and a helicopter was being flown in. There were also rescue swimmers in the water to help.
Highway 64 will be closed for the helicopter landing area, reports said.
It’s unclear exactly where the pair are trapped or how they got there.
