Police: NC father, son cheated elderly women in home improvement scam
GOLDSBORO, N.C. (WNCN) – A father and son from Wilson County have been arrested and charged with scamming elderly women in a home improvement scheme that could have cost the homeowners up to $30,000.
Jeffrey Allen Wooten of Elm City and Jeffrey Allen Wooten, Jr. of Wilson were arrested this week, with the father being arrested Thursday at a Wilson hotel and the son being arrested Friday.
The Goldsboro Police said several elderly women in the Cashwell Drive area had been scammed out of a large sum of money when they got the Wootens to do home improvement work.
The Goldsboro Police said the Wootens did not have a general contractor’s license and the money they charged was excessive. Major Anthony Carmon said there were at least two victims and maybe more in Goldsboro and police think more people could come forward in the Goldsboro and Wilson areas.
“They targeted elderly individuals,” Carmon said.
