Photo: Anti-War Rally at UNC, 1936

Memories of World War I were still fresh in the minds of many Americans when tensions were beginning to escalate in Europe in the 1930s, building toward the conflicts that would lead to World War II. The photo here is probably from a rally held at UNC on April 22, 1936. It was described as a “strike,” with classes cancelled for about an hour.
