JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – The person of interest in an Onslow County homicide investigation is in custody on a probation violation.
Major Chris Thomas, chief investigator with the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office, said 23-year-old Steven McCarty isn’t charged in connection to the deaths of 19-year-old Deandre Gilbert and 16-year-old Tyler Gilbert, but is a person of interest. He’s at the Onslow County detention center without bond.

That’s when they first named McCarty as a person of interest in the case of the deaths of the two brothers and asked him to come forward.
Sheriff Miller said it’s believed that the deaths of the Gilbert brothers is drug or gang-related. Tyler had a minor trespassing charge; Deandre also had a previous record.
