Local law enforcement agencies patrolling the waters to keep boaters safe

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – With Memorial Day weekend being the unofficial kickoff to summer, people aren’t just heading to the beach, they’re heading to local lakes.

CBS North Carolina’s Lauren Haviland spent Saturday out on Falls Lake with the Wake County Sheriff’s Office.
It was the perfect day for to get on the boat and cruise around.
“We just cruised around. We were out number one just to get some sun,” said boater Misty Bingham.
Not everyone was out on the docks soaking up the sun, though.
“We’re patrolling the waters of Falls Lake, making sure that motorists are acting in a safe manor,” said Joshua Milinichik, a deputy with the Wake County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies conducted safety checks throughout the day.
