Gonza Tacos y Tequila

A whole plantain split open and stuffed with steak is pretty much all you need to know about the new Gonza Tacos y Tequila in Durham.

Located in the old 605 West Morgan spot in West Village, this is the third Gonza Tacos y Tequila in the Triangle (the other two are in Raleigh and Wake Forest). The decor is still the large open, exposed brick of 605 West Morgan, it’s just been updated and enlivened with day of the dead accessories and dozens of paper lamps.
It’s pretty much everything we want in a restaurant. It’s our favorite taqueria grub paired with premium booze juice in a fun, casual setting. We’ve tried the carnitas tacos, tortilla soup, ceviche, pastor tacos and the above mentioned el platano. All have delivered in spades. The only  bummer is that tacos come in orders of three and you can’t mix and match.

This place is already popular and can have a wait. We look forward to warmer months, when their seating will be almost doubled with the outdoor patio. We hope this is the place that can finally make a success of this location.
