Fire destroys building at Douglas Byrd Middle School in Fayetteville
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) – The press box at one of Douglas Byrd Middle School’s athletic fields destroyed in a massive fire Saturday morning, Fayetteville Fire Department officials said.
The structure fire was located behind the school at 1606 Ireland Drive. The story building served as the concession stand and press box for athletic events.
Crews first arriving on scene found the building to be fully involved. There were no fire hydrants located near the building and a water shuttle had to be created to supply the water needed to fight the fire, authorities said.
Officials said the building is considered to be a total loss.
The Cumberland Road Fire Department assisted Fayetteville Firefighters with this incident.
Firefighters were still on scene as of 6:30 a.m. performing overhaul work.
There were no injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
