Family prays for justice after Moore County man killed in hit-and-run

WEST END, N.C. (WNCN) – The family of a Moore County man killed in a May 20 hit-and-run gathered Friday to pray for justice.
CLICK TO VIEW 13 PHOTOS OF STEVEN MCGREGOR, HIS FAMILY AND THE CRASH SCENESteven Markel McGregor , 23, was walking to his job at McDonald’s when he was hit by a vehicle and killed on North Carolina Route 211 in front of West End Elementary School.
Dozens gathered Friday near the spot where McGregor’s body was found to remember him.
“It’s so tough. There are no words. It was just so unexpected,” said Lasha Ruff, the victim’s sister.
Rumors saying the driver involved would not face began to circulate on social media in recent days.
The rumors became so widespread that on Friday the North Carolina State Highway Patrol took notice.
