Durham student continues to finals in National Spelling Bee

Washington, D.C. (WNCN) – North Carolina has two contestants moving on to the finals of the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.
Bettie Closs is a seventh grader at Lucas Middle in Durham. This is her third year in a row making it to the National Spelling Bee.
She’s one of 45 moving on Thursday. Also on the short list, Eva Vega, a sixth grader from Charlotte.
The final rounds kick off at 10 a.m. Thursday.
