About: Durham County Library will host Dr. Kennetta Perry, author and Assistant Professor in the Department of History at East Carolina University, at 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 4, at South Regional Library, 4505 S. Alston Ave.

Dr. Perry will discuss her book, London is the Place for Me: Black Britons, Citizenship and the Politics of Race, recently published by Oxford University Press. The book explores how a largely Afro-Caribbean population of Black Britons advocated for social justice and equal rights during the 1950s and 1960s. It also looks at the role that the Black freedom struggle in the U.S. played in shaping debates about race and citizenship in Britain following World War II. The book aims to showcase the global impact of the U.S. civil rights movements.
