Carolina Beach rescue teams spend hours searching for missing 21-year-old swimmer

CAROLINA BEACH, N.C. (WECT) – The Carolina Beach Police and Fire Department are actively searching for a missing swimmer in Carolina Beach.
CLICK TO SEE PICTURES OF THE RESCUE OPERATIONEmergency crews responded to a call of a swimmer in distress around 7:51 p.m. on the beach strand at Harper Avenue.
Three people total were reportedly in the water; two of the individuals came out of the water, according to officials with the Carolina Beach Fire Department.
The swimmer is described as a 21-year-old male who is 5-foot-10 and weighs approximately 160 pounds.
He was last seen wearing red, white and blue swim trunks.
At last report, the U.S. Coast Guard had a boat, a helicopter and a C130 aircraft on scene helping with the search.
County fire crews also responded to the scene.
Beach goers we spoke to said the water was rough.
