Caregiver hit 91-year-old WWII vet on head with oxygen tank, police say

NORTH PORT, Fla. (WFLA) — Police say a tough 91-year-old World War II veteran survived a brutal attack by his caregiver who is accused of hitting him on the head with an oxygen tank and then leaving him to die in a pool of blood when he refused to give her a blank check.
Elena Erickson, 45, of North Port, is charged with two counts of attempted murder and tampering with evidence.
Investigators say North Port Fire Rescue crews responded to the home of Michael Nicholas Tristano, age 91, at 8:12 a.m. on May 16. Erickson, who is Tristano’s caregiver, told paramedics that she found Tristano lying in a pool of blood and urine near the dining room table. He had a laceration on his head. Erickson told paramedics that Tristano was home alone from about 10:30 p.m. on May 15 to 8:10 a.m. on May 16 when she arrived to check
