Bear causes lockdown at two schools in NC
Manning Elementary School and Roanoke Rapids High School went into a soft lockdown Thursday morning after a bear appeared on campus.
The bear suddenly appeared in the courtyard at the high school before running through the woods into a tree close to the elementary school.
Students were unable to leave their classrooms for several minutes at each school.
The bear was in a tree at 7th & Park Avenue when North Carolina Wildlife officials arrived on the scene. Police blocked the streets. As of noon the bear had moved to the nearby Canal Trail.
No one was hurt, said Roanoke Rapids Graded School District spokesman Les Atkins.
